About the Artist

SL Senehedheera - Journalist and Artist

Senehe belongs to a famous lineage of artists in Sri Lanka. Creating art has been his passion from a very young age. People who commissioned his portrait paintings, garden sculptures or his stage, television and film props, have all been highly satisfied and appreciative of his work. He has 30 years of experience in making sculptures, paintings, making props and artwork for television, film and stage, at any size and scale (wood, Clay, high-density polystyrene, etc). 
Senehe started his career as the set department manager and art director of a popular TV station in Sri Lanka, and later became a TV program producer. He is an experienced broadcast journalist who has worked at the BBC World Service, also having won international awards in TV program production. He has extensive experience in educational, current affairs and documentary TV programming. Senehe also has two Masters degrees and is equipped with both quantitative and qualitative research skills which, in the past, he has applied to research in media studies.

Professional Experiences and Achievements 

Art Director, Sets designer and Art dept manager, TNL Television, Sri Lanka – April 1993 – 1997

• Designed all the background sets for studio and outdoor recordings for all the programs produced by TNL TV.

• Designed and created the graphics, props and artworks for the television programmes and advertisements.

Programme Producer, TNL Television, Sri Lanka - April 1993 – February 1997

• Produced weekly educational TV programme series ‘Staircase’ from 1994 to 1996, for high school children, which won the special commendation prize at NHK Japan prize international contest (1996).

• Produced ‘Golden Little stars’ TV programme series for children (age of 5-12) from 1993 to 1996.

• Produced weekly educational programme ‘Let us know please’ from 1993 to 1994.

Programme presenter/ announcer, TNL Television, Sri Lanka – April 1993 – 1997

• Presented two weekly educational TV programmes; ‘Staircase’ and ‘Golden Little stars’ from 1993 to 1996.

• Presented and interviewed artists for ‘Taste bud’- arts programme 1994 to 1996

• Interviewer for special current afire programme on suicide farmers in dry zone Sri Lanka (1995)

Broadcast Journalist, BBC World Service, United Kingdom, May 2013 – May 2017

• Producing audio and video materials for the daily radio programme and the website- 
(News packages of current affairs, live political analysis, reading daily news bulletin, writing and presenting feature programs).

Freelance Videographer/ Graphic Designer /Artist- Japan and the UK, - March 2000 – Present

• Directed and edited the self-shot video documentary ‘His Siberia’-the life of the Japanese war prisoner Sakuei Yuzaki (2002). 

• Directed and edited the Sri Lankan Film ‘Dream Paradise’ (2005) shot in London.

• Designed graphics of numerous publications newsletters, flyers, posters, web graphics and logos for charities in the UK and Japan. (‘Tharanga’-Japan, ‘Sambodhi’ –UK, etc)
